Selecting Conductive Adhesives for SEM Sample Preparation
The choice of mounting material depends on specimen geometry, conductivity and analytical requirements. Conductive carbon tabs provide a convenient method for mounting many routine SEM specimens, while carbon tape is suitable where flexible sizing or a larger mounting area is required.
For applications requiring additional electrical contact, conductive carbon or silver-based adhesives can be used. When selecting a mounting material for SEM/EDS analysis, the composition of the adhesive and substrate should also be considered to minimise unwanted contributions to the X-ray spectrum.
